Mill Valley Care Center Weekly News (May 24 – 30, 2024) Captured Highlights (1)

Residents are shown enjoying the great outdoors on the sunporch during the afternoon on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa.

Thanks to Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting the game of “Euchre” [as volunteers at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC)] during the morning on Friday; and hosting “Music with Ray & Doris” for/with the tenants [at the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL)] and the residents (at the MVCC) during the noontime on Friday, and the evening-time on Sunday and Tuesday.

The residents/tenants were given an opportunity to vote absentee on Friday, (May 24, 2024), for the Primary Election on Tuesday, (June 4, 2024), with two volunteers from the Jackson County Auditor’s Office: Kim Deppe (Republican) and Rosie Schwager (Democrat). The ladies took the ballots back to the Jackson County Auditor’s Office for counting in the Primary Election. Each participating resident/tenant voted in the privacy of their own room or secluded area (during the midmorning on Friday).

Thanks to Vincent S. and Marlyce T. (tenants, volunteers) and Linda Bennett (family/volunteer) for hosting the game of “Dominoes” during the afternoon on Friday. “Soft Serve” Ice cream desserts were served after the games. Thanks to Jeanne Weber (volunteer) for assisting Activities.

Thanks to Marlyce T. (tenant, volunteer) for leading the Rosary prayers (at the SVAL) for the Catholic tenants during this month on Sunday midmorning.

“Coffee and Conversation” was enjoyed by the tenants and families (at the SVAL) during Sunday morning.

Special Thanks to Kelby Mueller (volunteer) for hosting “Music with Kelby” for/with the residents (at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the evening time on Sunday.

Memorial Day is one of the federal holidays in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. On Memorial Day, we honor and thank all the heroic men and women who gave their lives while defending our nation and cherished freedoms. These heroes were fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, loved ones, and friends who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to something bigger than themselves. May God Bless You and Yours, and May God Bless America.

Residents, tenants, families, friends, and veterans gathered together throughout this day, each keeping in mind their own personal family Veteran heroes who had graced their lives, and through their sacrifices our freedoms could be secured.

Thanks to Jr. Steines (volunteer) for hosting “Euchre Games” (at the MVCC) during the afternoon on Monday.

“Ice Cream” was served for/with the residents (at the MVCC) during the afternoon on Monday.

“Movie/Video – Choice” was held with the residents during the afternoon on Tuesday.

Thanks to Anthony Althaus, Donna Sieverding, and Mary Sieverding (volunteers) for hosting “Bingo Games” with the tenants (at the SVAL), held during the afternoon on Tuesday.

“Apple Bobbing” (activity & discussions) was celebrated by the residents and tenants by their exercising gracefully during the afternoon on Tuesday.

Special thanks to David Eischeid (volunteer art instructor) and Mary Kubik (volunteer) for visiting and hosting “Artwork with David & Mary” (an artwork class) during the morning on Wednesday and helping our small group of resident/tenant art students unlock their art talents. Thanks also to Laurie Anderson (volunteer) for assisting the artwork class.

Special Thanks to Pat Roing, Jeannie Weber, Steve Junk, Linda Bennett, Betty Bakey, Jane Steines, Anonymous, and Laurie Anderson (volunteers) for hosting “Bingo Games with the Catholics”, held with the residents and tenants (at the MVCC) during the afternoon on Wednesday.

Thanks to the staff/volunteers: Theresa Schwager, Susan Eversole, Lenae Sieverding, Susan Cates, Melissa Koch, Kayla Blaser, CNAs, and all the involved unnamed staff for their assistance in Activities this week, and Laurie Anderson (volunteer) for assisting Activities during the day on Wednesday. (You are appreciated greatly!)

Thanks to Rev. Robert Gross (Pastor, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bellevue, Iowa), Judy Moran, Betty Portz, Julie Mueller, and Rick Michels (volunteers) for hosting the Catholic Mass and Communion Service (at the SVAL) during the midmorning on Thursday. Thanks to Betty Portz and Judy Moran (volunteers), all the staff/volunteers for assisting with residents and tenants, and with reciting the Rosary prayers. Thanks to Rev. Robert Gross for assisting the distribution of Communion to the residents (at the MVCC).

“Exercise & Reminisce” games were held with the residents during midmorning on Thursday.

“National Smile Day” was celebrated with the residents and tenants during the afternoon on the outside porch on Thursday.

Special Thanks to all the staff/volunteers for assisting Activities during this past week: Theresa Schwager, Susan Eversole, Jillian Kueter, Lenae Sieverding, Susan Cates, Melissa Koch, Megan Meier, Atlanta Wilson, and other unnamed staff and volunteers.

“Happy Birthday” to Roberta S. who celebrated her birthday this past week! Many Thanks with appreciation to Roberta & Family for sharing her Birthday cake with us and Birthday Cookies for the staff! Yummy!

Thanks to all the volunteers for being awesome. Susan Cates for her many donations of 40 pounds of “Wild Birdseed” and filling up the bird feeders for the residents and tenants during the past weeks, so that the residents and tenants could enjoy seeing the Colorful Birds”. Anonymous for their donations of items during this past week. Thanks to everyone for their assistance and support with all the “individualized” activities/events during this past week.
